The ‘Sleep diagnostics and adaptive sleep therapy’ group (SAS)
The ‘Sleep diagnostics and adaptive sleep therapy’ development group
Diagnosis and therapy – behind these two words is much more than just the diagnosis of an ailment and the initiation of treatment. We think first of the patient and how we can help him or her. Our diagnostic products meticulously analyze and accurately interpret the patient‘s sometimes numerous and diverse symptoms. The next step is to provide the patient with a therapy device that he or she will accept and use. All these things are cricital to ensuring the well-being of the patient, which is our highest goal.
Over the years Weinmann has acquired extensive expertise in its special fields of home mechanical ventilation and sleep medicine and has made a name for itself internationally with its high-quality products.
In order for things to stay this way, the ‘Sleep diagnostics and adaptive sleep therapy’ group (SAS) is busy developing innovative methods for sleep analysis and for respiratory diagnostics, as well as developing devices for sleep diagnostics and therapy.
“Our goal is to be the most competent developer in the areas of signal interpretation and application friendliness,” says Matthias Schwaibold, Director of Sleep Diagnostic Development. Weinmann believes it‘s important to reduce time and effort for medical personnel and patients. Some opportunities are in miniaturization and the wireless transfer of data. What can help even more is the intelligent interpretation of the measured signals, which, among other things, permits detection of cardiovascular complications due to sleep-related respiratory disorders. This approach reduces the number of steps a doctor has to take to make a diagnosis.

The ‘System development & homecare service’ group (SES)
The ‘System development & homecare service' development group
When we refer to products, we do not mean individual devices or one or two software programs. We think instead of complete systems and service packages that offer highly effective and innovative care concepts and respond to individual customer needs.
For this reason, SES (System development & homecare service) develops software at our sites in Karlsruhe and Tomsk (Sibiria). It takes over the object-oriented analysis and design of software architectures based on components, the visualization, processing and analysis of biosignals, as well as the design of communication protocols. Their job is therefore the development of PC-supported medical application software for diagnostic and therapy products for sleep medicine and the 1st and 2nd level support for our PC software products.
That’s how products are created, such as the SOMNOsupport setting and analysis software for Weinmann devices. SOMNOsupport is the supplemental PC software for all Weinmann therapy devices and is available to doctors, sleep labs and specialized dealers.
This software permits the reading and graphic representation of compliance data (therapy calendar) and the PC-managed remote-control setting of all therapy devices and the detailed analysis of therapy data per device.
SOMNOsupport also offers the following functions:
- Transmission of stored data to PC via converter box, from version 3.15 also with USB connection via converter cable
- Visualization of all therapy-relevant parameters
- Remote setting of therapy devices
- Graphic representation and analysis of therapy course and patient compliance
- Detailed diagram of signals and events during titration night
- Documentation and archiving of therapy success
- Print-out of therapy reports
- Decision support for the selection of therapy device and determination of CPAP pressure

The ‘Science and Research’ group
The development group for non-invasive diagnostics and new parameters
Our goal is innovative solutions in non-invasive blood diagnosis”. Today we can very quickly find out what just yesterday could be detected only during a lengthy clinical examination. We don‘t even have to be at the hospital or in the doctor‘s practice. Our products work immediately wherever they‘re needed. Our research is focused on determining other important blood parameters – non-invasively and just in time.
Doctors want to make diagnostics easier with the research of such innovative parameters and want to provide economic therapeutic decisions to benefit health insurance companies with specific on-site analyses. Such as with our pulse oximeter smartOx. Its easy-to-handle design and the new technology for measuring the pulse rate and oxygen saturation in blood is an efficient solution for “spot checking” as well as pre- and post-operative short-term monitoring.

The SOMNOlab group
The SOMNOlab group creates the complete diagnostic station for individual patient care – the SOMNOlab sleep diagnostic system. This system measures all standard parameters which have been defined by the German Association for Sleep Research and Sleep Medicine (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Schlafforschung und Schlafmedizin (DGSM)).
The Weinmann SOMNOlab sleep diagnostic system reduces routine work in the sleep lab and frees up more time for patient care.
At the Karlsruhe site, devices are built, preconfigured and the necessary system-tested visualization and evaluation systems are installed – every system individually according to customer wishes.
